Sue Hayward - Lancashire Woman of the Year

sue nominated for an awardTo think that Elizabeth Gomm a journalist for the Blackpool Gazette newspaper  believed me worthy enough to be nominated for  Lancashire Woman of the Year is very humbling, but to actually win the award is unbelievable!! To represent my county for doing something that has become a way of life for myself and my husband Dave is fantastic.  Without his love, support and belief in me I would not have been able to achieve my dreams to help the Children of Watamu.

Barnardos is a truly remarkable organisation for helping children. I am honoured that my charity that also works to help children is linked to their name. We also have the same beliefs as  Barnardos in that all children should be free from poverty abuse and discrimination. We also believe that education is the road out of poverty for so many children all over the world.

lancashire Woman of the YearThis award is for all my children, 700, who are in full time education at the schools that we have built. All the orphans who will eventually live in our Happy House when it's complete. All the people who have believed in me and my vision for these children, It is for Silas, Rose. Samuel and Grandpa Yaa in Watamu. Without their hard work honesty, kindness and generosity we would not have been unable to move forward with our work. All the people who sponsor individual children, those who work hard at raising funds. School children who give so much of themselves in their efforts to help other children less fortunate . People who have put nearly 300 children on bicycles. People who have done sponsored slims, swims, runs and marathons. Organised quiz nights and discos. Those who have baked cakes, grown fruit and vegetables to sell and raise funds for The Children.

From the bottom of my heart I thank you all so very much, from myself, my fellow trustees but most of all from The Children of Watamu and the Happy House Kids.
