In December 2007 we received a terrific donation from a Polymer Manufacturing Company based in Wollaston, Northants. What is different about this company is that the shares of the operating company are held by a registered charity called Scott Bader Commonwealth Limited, and a proportion of the profits go to the charity each year. People that work for the company become members of the charity and from the funds available the charity seek to support community based projects in different locations around the world, particularly where they have a presence. Thankfully for us when we sent a copy of our DVD about the Happy House to them they appreciated what we are trying to do and wanted to help and be part of this special project. Their donation has enabled us to start the basics of phase one of the Happy House project etc. and we are extremely grateful to them

Lytham St. Annes High School

Louise & Charlotte Anderson are the  lovely daughters of Cath Anderson a teacher at Heyhouses Junior School at St Annes Blackpool ( Please visit Heyhouses Junior School. ) The girls contacted me to say that they intended to raise funds for the Children of Watamu at the school they attend, Lytham St Annes High School , through a non uniform day.  Louise and Charlotte, took the school assemblies every morning for a week. I was lucky enough to be able to attend 3. I was so impressed with their presentations. A fantastic £1,092 was raised by that one day. Mr Wood the Headmaster has invited me to give talks to individual classes regarding our work in Watamu. The staff are also thinking of arranging a school trip to Watamu. Isn’t that fantastic? Kids working for kids really warms your heart, doesn’t it?

The Evening was a great success!!

With funds raised on the evening from the Snail Racing, items purchased from the Wish list, raffles and auctions, plus donations we received  from people who were unable to join us we raised a terrific £3,652!!

Due to the help and support from all the staff of the Abbey Bank especially Debbie McAlroy we qualify for the £3,500 matched donation from the Abbey Bank.

Thank you all of you who attended  the evening and all of you who supported  us in so many kind and generous ways we are truly grateful, as are the Future Happy House Kids.

Concert in Italy

Saturday 17th November

During our visit to Watamu in February 2007, we were very privileged to meet  Francesca Pagnini a music student from Italy. Francesca was very interested in our work with the children, so much so that Francesca and her friend Laura Nepi   arranged a concert, in Italy, to raise funds for the Happy House.

The concert was held on Saturday the 17th of November at 9.00pm at the Theatre  of Cocordi, in Campiglis Marittima  Italy.  The concert was supported by the  Association of Voluntary Italian Blood Donors .

was so pleased to start  the New year with good news about the children doing so well in their exams, and now how sad it is now to watch the television and see what is happening in Kenya?  I just can’t believe it! People who are in the extremes of poverty, living in the slums of Nairobi, have been chased from their homes, such as they were. A small corrugated iron shed,  with nothing but a pot to cook rice. Now they have been looted by their neighbours, they have even less. To us it is unimaginable. Thank goodness all is well in Watamu and the surrounding areas, not one problem at all.

Dave & I are  here in Watamu, (12/1/08 ) I will keep this page as up to date as possible. So many people are contacting me to say the have seen the Latest News Page, so thanks for that. Here in Watamu all is well. We landed in Nairobi on the 9th of January, flew down to Mombassa, Silas our Headmaster from school and Rose came to meet us. We never saw any problems at all. Turtle Bay Beach Club is very quiet, as people are leaving no- one is coming, due to the Travel Companies. All I can say is, if you are thinking of coming or you are booked to come, at this moment in time everything is as it has always been. Hopefully, Kofi Annan can help the leaders to solve the problems of the elections and  definitely not at the expense of innocent people. Our Primary School is now open, the kids are so pleased to be back at school. The Government said all the schools should stay closed, but it has been decided that we should open. Why let the kids suffer? What is the point to all this?

During this visit we are going  to start  phase one of the Happy House Project. First, we are making arrangements for the 4 acres of land  that we have a 99 lease on to be fenced off. We will be having plans drawn for the initial buildings. We will have to look into the water supply, drainage and electricity. Hopefully we will be able to make a start on the initial foundations. I will of course keep everyone informed of progress via this page and the Happy House Page. It will be so exciting to be able to post pictures of the work actually starting.

I was approached by a parent from school today, who asked if the parents can help with the work, as no-one has anything to do, due to the low number of tourists. He said they would not ask for wages, they just  want to help with the Happy House for the orphans. We will of course supply a meal  midday for all who come to help.
