Heyhouses Junior School, Lytham St. Annes Lancashire have been continually supportive of our charity work.
Since 2004 they have organised book collections and packed shoe boxes with a wide range of presents for the children.
As we were not sending a consignment in 2006, Class 6A, under the expert guidance of their form teacher Mrs Anderson, have looked at other ways in which they could continue with their support.
Mrs Anderson checked our website and saw that one of our main aims for 2006 was to promote and develop the Sponsored Child Scheme. A class discussion was held and the children decided to get involved in this project; their target was to raise £200 to support a child for one year.
Class 6A organised many activities from selling cakes and sweets to having an "England Day" at school. Everyone worked very hard at their particular tasks.
At the beginning of July 2006, I was invited to Heyhouses School to receive the donation from the children. To my great delight and surprise they had raised the fantastic amount of £500.
Through their work they had managed to sponsor not just one but 2 children. It was decided that they would sponsor Lulu aged 6 and Juma aged 8 (seen above with the Heyhouses School cheque.
Mrs Anderson very kindly donated the money for Lulu and Juma to receive bicycles.
Mrs Anderson contacted me to invite me to speak to class 6 of 2007 as the previous class has now moved on to Secondary school. The school fully intends to continue with its support of Lulu and Juma.
In July 2007 I was again invited to receive the cheque for the continued sponsorship of Lulu & Juma.
Silas the headmaster at SDA Watamu visited us here in the UK during August and September 2007. We were delighted that Mrs Anderson and Mr Barnes the Head Teacher have invited myself and Silas to spend a morning at school and have lunch with the children.
It was great for Silas to meet some of the people who have made so many things possible at his school. I think that children working to help other children really touches your soul.
Besides raising money to support Lulu and Juma Heyhouses School has done a terrific Happy House fund raiser. Mrs Anderson had the brilliant idea of putting a large drawing of the Happy House in the Infants and Primary departments. Lots of information from the website was also added regarding our hopes and dreams for the Happy House Children of the future. People were invited to buy from our Wish List. As hand prints are our logo, lots were printed to enable people to choose their items write their names and choices on the hand and pin it to the picture. The result was stunning. The response was tremendous. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Anderson, Class 6, all staff, parents, and especially the children for their tremdous efforts in raising the fantastic amount of £1,170.
Could your school do something similar to help us build the Happy House for the many orphans now in Watamu and the surrounding area. We desperately need to get these very vulnerable children in a place they can call home. Children have gone missing, where are they? Are they still alive? Many are sleeping rough begging for food. We desperately need to build a Happy House where these children can go to sleep in a bed and wake up to a breakfast. My husband Dave & I are selling our business here in the UK, to go and live and work with these children. I feel that by going to Watamu and receiving support from so many, such as the children of Heyhouses School we are making a difference to the lives of these children. Can You?
